Change prop--2 to 3 blade.

I am running a 5411 on my boat and I believe the prop is a 12-1 two blade. I have a difficult time maintaining speed in current or rough seas. pulling up to dock gets real touchy having somewhat of a delay in time to get my boat to respond in reverse. Would a 3 blade prop help in that area, and if so what would be the correct prop to use.

Catalina prop

I have a three blade 12x10 prop and I don,t have any of those problems. I have a Yanmar 12 and motor at6 knots. Hope this helps. Sean--CARNABY STREET

3-blade prop

Last summer I changed from a 2- to 3-blade prop on my 1983 C-30. I called Catalina to get the specs for my engine which is a Universal 25. Two changes were noted immediately......docking was improved, the prop grabs quickly. Also, engine rpms were reduced using 3-blade to maintain a given speed. Was a very worthwhile investment.....especially for tight docking. Charles Weiss "Persistence"

Two or three blade

Hello C Jensen: Thank you for your letter. By design a three blade is usually 30+% more efficient then a two blade. This helps to transmit more torque to the propeller thus increasing the vessels motoring efficiency. You will also find the running gear will be quieter with the three blade.
