I am preparing ot replace the Jabsco head in my B36CC with a new Jabsco 'Twist and lock'. Should I replace the hoses when I replace the head? The boat is a 1999 and I have only owned for 1 year. The hoses look like they could be original but show no signs of deteriation or permeantation. They also passed the wet rag test in Peggie Halls book. What about removing the holding tank and using a high pressure cwasher to make sure that is also clean? I have a rather rotten odor in the head and if I am going to do this nasty job I want to make sure I do everything that might need servicing. It does not seem like the sort of job I want to repeat.

changing hoses

I have a 1978 30 Oday, I receiently replaced the head and I also got rid of a lot of oder in the boat. I used the best hose from the head to the holding tank and then to the pump out. I made a major difference.

I just replaced the holding tank in my boat due to an awful smell. The tank was the original, I believe. I replaced the hoses at the same time. Older hoses will become permeable to gas even if you cannot see visible evidence of it. I'd suggest replacing the hoses, too. It's short money!

If it ain't broke, don't fix it...

If your hoses are still supple and also pass the hot wet rag test, there's no reason to replace 'em. Age does not make hoses more permeable. If your odor is confined to the head, it's either stagnant sea water or some dead decaying animal or vegetable sea life trapped in the intake...or your shower sump is in desperate need of cleaning!

There's really nothing to gain by removing and pressure washing your tank that can't be accomplished with a gallon of liquid detergent in a full tank of water...go sailing and tack a lot...then dump it and rinse it out very thoroughly.

Now about your choice of replacement toilets....For about the same money, you'll be a LOT happier with this: sbo.com PHII PHC LBA

If you're dealing with backflow, we can fix that...send me an email.
