I really want to catch redfish . Anyone know anything about sailing around the Chandeur islands,fishing, warnings???

i have never sailed in the area but i used to fish there quite a bit in a 21 foot bay boat. You can catch bull reds in the passes. There are lots of shallow areas but mostly on the north side of the islands. I think your best bet would to come in from the gulf side and stay out of the bays. I doubt any charts would be accurate following all the recent hurricanes.

I have been through breton sounds many times and not a fisherman. I can tell you that most all of the islands are gone due to hurricane s and left lots of sand bars that are not charted any where. I do understand the fishing is good aroung there and baptiste colette but im usually pushing barges so i never fish. Too busy driving.. lol
A fellow Captain that i know lives on DI and loves fishing, im sure he could shed some light on the reds.. I,ll ask him next time we talk..

I too love to catch reds, and that is a good place for them. Also a lot of shark fishing in there if you enjoy that. From the charts it looks like you could anchor up inside, and take a dink to shallow wading water. But since Katrina I would suggest going very very easy. Nothing is the same anywhere in that area. Might find a fishing guide with some recent info. If you will call the Rigoles Marina, and talk to Bunny, she can certainly find out any info you need, and will happily do so.

I might have to take a charter boat out there first before trying to take my own boat. It looks like a great place, but very remote. It must not be very good for sailboats as I haven't found anyone who has sailed there. If it was good more sailers would take the day sail out there.
