My 86' 23 has turnbuckles from the chainplates to the hull mounting points. Others I have seen around the same model year are mounted to wood assemblies which in turn are secured to the hull interior to apparently molded fiberglass reinforcement ribs, in fact mine is the only one I have seen with the turnbuckles. My question is was the 23 provided with both, or was mine modified by a previous owner. My hull does not have the molded ribs, ergo it would have to have an alternative reinforcement (turnbuckles). Any wisdom out there? No problems with the arrangement I have, just curiosity. Thanks for any input!

Do you per chance......

Have Cliff's old 23? If so, he moved his chain plates inboard to improve windward performance. If that was his method, I'd really like to see a pic or two of the mod. You may have a famous 23 on your hands. Greg H23 Faster-

Not my Boat.

Dan Hunter did some werd stuff back then and all the boats seem to be a little different. I saw 2 boats like yours and it means you more than likely have a short spreader boat. You have what others want the short spreaders. So your fine. They did do away with that design and went to the bulkhead design. It might have been cheaber from a production point to just go with the bulk head design. By the way my old 23 is on Grand Lake not far from you. The only problem I saw with your type was you need to keep the interior turnbuckle tight or it will flex the deck. On the ones I saw the shrouds were attached to a point on deck and then bolted to the same point under the deck and then ran to a turn buckle that was glassed to the hull of the boat. I think it's been a few years. The St.Marys boat club is haveing a Lekuema Regatta that will be allot of fun you may want to yank out and pull over to it. (Thanks Greg By the way I am buying a different boat a Tripp 26. This boat is a rocket) Thanks Cliff

Mine too!

I have an '84 H23 (not 22) and it too has turnbuckles. How tight are they supposed to be? Should they be tight with the mast down? See ya! Chris S/V Doghouse ckluczkowski@ato.com
