This photo is not the clearest, but it shows the problem. There is no way to lift the cover up high enough to ensure that the slots for the plates are properly filled with sealant. When the chain plates are completely removed there is good access to the slots, but when pushing the plates back into place, the sealant is disturbed and, because the cover has to be installed at the same time, there is no way to be sure the slots are properly filled.
I only see two options. Either cut the cover so it can be put on in pieces or cut off the spacers that are welded to the chain plate.
