Chainplate woes

I noticed that the fiberglass topsides around the chainplates on my 1995 H26 B&R rig had a small few chips and were leaking. I intended to remove them and rebed them. the chainplate is just a stainless cover plate with a U-bolt through it and nuts and a stainless bar under the hull-deck joint. As I was attempting to take off the starboard side, I noticed a 12" crack in the hull-deck seam on the underside. If you imagine an "L" turned 90 degrees clockwise, you'll have the cross section of the hull-deck seam with the chainplate resting on the back of the long leg of the "L". The crack is in the end of the short leg of the "L" I can't remove the chain plate even though I loosened the nuts to the end of the u-bolt threads and pounded upward on the nuts to get the u-bolts holding down the chainplates to come out. They didn't budge and I dare not strike harder for fear of breaking the toe rail. Obviously, I missing some finesse or chemical solution to removing the chainplates. Any advise would be appreciated.

C-clamp remove 5200'ed chain plate

I figured it out myself. Used a C-clamp to press the U-bolt out of the hull-deck joint. What a bugger cleaning out the holes! The crack in the edge of the hull-deck joint doesn't look structural, so I sealed everything back with silicone and plan on dremeling out and epoxying the crack during the summer doldrums.
