I finally got around to installing the new chainplates, that I got from Steve Birch, on the port side of my boat this weekend. I was ready to install the trim panel that conceals the deck/hull seam above the port settee so I needed to replace them before installing the panel. I was pleasantly surprised to find that there was no galvanic corrosion between the aluminum reinforcing channel and the stainless steel chainplates. I had planned on replacing the channel had there been corrosion, but decided there was no need. I used butyl sealant to seal the chainplates and all three installed with little effort. The center one was a little challenging because it is right behind my main bulkhead. I was able to get the old bolts off and the new ones on with extra effort. Because of that, I'll replace the starboard side chainplates when I have the main bulkhead out for replacement. There are pictures of the replacement on the bottom of my Blue Max page for anyone interested.

I just tried using butyl as bedding. It gets tight but then I think you may want to retighten as the stuff squeezes out over time.
