Chainplate replacement musings.

Looking at chainplate replacements on the web, I came across this article:

I like the "V" shape, as the rigging screw pin has more contact area on the chainplate, and these might be easier to home build than the circular ones.

Some Catalina 27's and 30's also use this type of chainplate and replacement kits look like this (only four "U" bolts)
Lower Shroud Chainplate Upgrade C-30Wichard has an interesting "U" bolt with a base that seals the bolt holes. I don't know if it also clamps the hull/deck joint, so more research is needed on that one.

These also come in a 10mm size that's a bit stronger.Wichard also makes regular "U" bolts in normal and long lengths, and various sizes.
