Chainplate bulkhead....what material?

I need to replace both port and starboard upper shroud bulkheads on my 79 Hunter 30. After searching, most repairs are done using marine plywood. That stuff is scarce around here and was wondering is Star Board would be a good material. I never used the stuff but was wondering if it would be structural sound for that application. Also, can it be fiberglass tabbed to the hull with no problems. I was also considering using solid red oak....tons of that around here. I would be covering the oak with a couple coats of West System first. Anyone use Star Board or a hardwood for their bulkhead material?

Not much (if anything) sticks to Starboard, and I'd doubt its structural performance in this application.

Nothing wrong with oak. I use it for many applications.

plywood is made for the "Racking" that a bulkhead needs to resist.
I'd go with high grade exterior fir plywood. Exterior fir is more or less identical to the low grades of marine ply

I read somewhere to never use red oak. Has something to do with the type and direction of the wood fibers. It seems that red oak actually sucks in moisture and rots very quickly, while white oak repels moisture and can last unprotected for years. FYI.
