I saw this on the Catalina list. http://users3.ev1.net/~sailord/H376.jpg As you can imagine , they are having a field day with this. I am quite certain that I could find an equally disastrous photo of a Catalina, but that is not why I am writing this. I could care less what Catalina people think about Hunters. I have had two Catalinas and currently have a 1996 Hunter 29.5 I love the boat and would buy another Hunter in a second. I am a little concerned however after seeing this photo of a 376. Recently I saw something on the HOW page concerning other models(410 and 420) . If memory serves there was a recall and a warning concerning the attachment of the plate that houses the side stays which support the mast. In the picture of the 376 it seems that the plate is only attached to the deck and not the hull. That would seem to indicate that the mast is supported only by the top side deck. Since other models have the rig design it would seem to me that other models should be retrofitted as well I am wondering if Hunter made upgrades in the newer boats and when -------Clint

...to the original thread on this failure. Bottom line is that it appears to be a one-off incident related to a bad flange trim at the factory that gave the bond and mechanical fasteners nothing to grab. I believe it is unrelated to the early 410/420 retrofits.
