The location of the shrouds/chainplates take up alot of the deck, making it a little dificult to move forward without stepping up atop the cabin top. Has anyone tried to move their location closer to the toerail? I have noticed a few other boats in the marina that do this, and it appears that the mounting sill will accomodate this. Will the small change of the angle of the shroud make any difference?

Twelve years with my H37C and on this board and I never saw that question. Be interesting to see the responses. I have learned to go through them. I seldom go up on the cabin. I think they could be reengineered but the tangs for the lowers would have to be reshaped. Then the chainplate mounting would be a serious effort. If you get them too close to the edge of the bulkheads you will really weaken them. Will require a lot of design work.
There is an enormous amount of load on those shrouds, it would be like trying to relocate the suspension mounting points on your car. Not possible without some sort of engineering degree or three.
Re. H37C Chainplates
As you can see the forward lower really could not be any closer to the toerail. Maybe only the aft lower is a problem. I wish I could visualize how that chainplate is attached. Then the fact that moving them out does not change much at the six foot level. You would still need to lean in. I just go inside the forward most and outside the aft.
The pictures illustrate one of the design problems we have discussed in the past. That is that the chainplates are not in alignment with the forces. The upper is not bad. The aft lower is terrible. One friend had new chainplates made and corrected this on the aft. But you can see that if you realign then the bottom of the chainplate would be against the hull and the top would still have to be well inside the deck.
