Chain plates leak after butyl sealing

Hey all,
I have a 1978 O'Day 23-2. I've done many upgrades to it, including a new starboard bulkhead. I notice however, that during heaving rains, there is still a trickle of water coming down both chainplates. I stuffed the chainplates and screws etc with butyl pretty darn good on a kinda warm day.

Could the leaks be from the mast base or something else and seeping/draining at the chain plates, or is it still most likely from the chain plate through deck itself?
This boat leaks from every possible place...slowly working on them all...

I have done three of my six with butyl. Like this:

If just "stuffed" it without being systematic, that could be it.

Without photos it's hard to figure your mast base comment, though.

Thanks for the article, I checked it out. I did get both screws and the entire plate and believe that all portions of the hole and the chain plate are adhered to the butyl tape. my question is if the mass base is leaking into the core, could that water be seeping from the center of the deck house and exiting at the chain plate through deck?
I'll get pictures after this weekend

I doubt a mast base leak would travel all the way to the chain plates. If both leak then you will have to go back and redo them.

More likely the fixed ports (windows) leaking and traveling in the deck to the chainplate openings.
