hello all.....

I have been using a basic chain hook for my snubber and wrapping a line around it to keep it secure while deployed. Now I am looking at the mantis chain grabber.... the M2 and was wondering if anybody has feedback regarding its efficiency. Looks like they are phasing out their old style hook.

Thanks
Greg

I have the original Mantus hook and it works and is more secure than a plain chain hook, but it sometimes hangs up on the bow roller and could be easier to attach.

Looking at the new hook, M2, it appears to avoid those issues. However, it relies on an "elastic strap" to hold the hook on the chain. That part is suspect. How well will it hold up to UV? Can it be replaced? How do you know when it approaches failure?

Yes the straps are sold separately...... I assume you just get a couple extra. I was actually going to but the old version this season but now the 3/8 is not available..... Old version looks like it will hold onto chain much better.

My friend John said for me to stay clear of this one. He has replaced 2 straps in 3 months. The weakest point is the eye. IHO. Lives in Palm Beach FLA.

It looks suspect..... Maybe I'll stick with my inexpensive grabber and continue to tie off. Hasn't failed me yet.
Thanks!

Their old hook would always snag in the roller of our 36.7.. so when I saw their pendant snubber and made one out of dyneema, some cover, and some heat shrink. Works swell, and has lots of other uses on the boat.

I saw them and they did look intriguing... I have a bunch of Amsteel and was thinking about making up one of them as well..... Nice project this weekend! (on the list!!!!)

Thanks for the push....
