Cetol SRD vs regular "marine" Cetol ???

Just got a flier from our local big box home improvement store. They are advertising Sikkens Cetol SRD for $29.95 per GALLON. A quart of regular "marine" Cetol runs, what, $39.95 on sale at most marine stores? My question is whether there is a difference between the two Cetol products. Thanks!

Must be a different Cetol for house decks, not the marine type? And what store is that?

makes a whole line of wood protection products of which the Cetol Marine ones are just a few that are sold in most hardware stores. I have wondered the same thing but have not found one of the deck stain/sealant products that has the same color atributes as the Cetol Marine.

Given the continued increasing costs of Cetol Marine at the boat stores, I'm beginning to lean towards trying to match it with one of their house protection products. At the top of the Chesapeake, outdoors is outdoors, not a salt-air environment.

There is a product from Cabot called Australian timber oil. I have it on a bench that has been sitting in the NC sun for about a year and looks like new. I would try it on teak but I don't have any anymore.

I can't answer your question, but why not start with comparing the contents of each as listed on the can?

I have been using the Marine Cetol on my boat for the last 6-8 years and have had great success with it. Love it, especially the newer 'light " product.

I have also used the Sikkens deck protective coating on my deck at the house and it was terrible. Flaked off after a year so I tried again and had similar results. I think my results show there is a major difference in the products. I'm thinking the old "you get what you pay for" saying says it all.

I ended up putting a solid stain from Home Depot on the deck and it has worked flawlessly.
