I am in the process of doing some maintenence on my H240. One of the things that is getting some attention is the hardware associated with the centerboard uphaul line. Specifically the sheave under the mast step and the turning block off to the starboard side that re-directs the centerboard uphaul line back towards the cockpit.

Has anyone had to replace or work on either of these items? There does not appear to be any access from the cabin to the backside of the turning block or the mounting screws for the mast step. I am wondering if they are just bolted on to a threaded, glassed in backing plate.

Any input on this would be greatly appreciated. Also if anyone has replaced the turning block in question, what model did you replace it with? I believe the stock one is a Schaefer but not sure what model #.

Many Thanks and Fair Winds,

I think the 240 would be the same as a 260. The 260 uses 3/8" aluminum plates glassed into the deck during construction. Then it is just a matter of using the right sized drill and a hand tap to install hardware. I have the diagram for the location on a 260. It is a 1.8 meg .pdf file. I up-loaded it last week to the downloads section on this website but it has not shown up there yet. I'm not sure if they have a problem using it or not, have not heard anything.
I don't know how much it would help with a 240, maybe better to get the correct one from Hunter Marine before drilling too many holes :).
I would be happy to email it to anyone interested, let me know,
Bob

The sheave under the mast step is on a pin that is free floating in brackets attached to the bottom of the step. The recessed area is all that keeps the pin in place. I've had mine apart to re-bed the bulkhead fitting that the line goes through, the step is held down with self threading sheet metal type screws with no nuts inside. Now the cheek block that redirects the centerboard line, Mine is a 2000 and the factory did not orientate the block properly for the direction of the load, they mounted them more for looks than function. I've replaced mine once due to damage from the improper loading, i used the exact replacement from schaffer. I have researched repositioning it but I'm not sure how big the plate is that's embedded in the deck glass. Good luck with yours and any incite on that plate would be welcome.
