Just bought a Widgeon 1964. All seems pretty fair shape except the centerboard in the trunk. Can't get it to drop loose of the trunk. Need to know how to dismantle the trunk cover to service it. bf

Widgeon Centerboard

I don't think that the centerboard cover comes off -- i believe that it's glued together. That doesn't mean that the centerboard cannot be gotten out, though. You can careen the hull (fancy word for laying the boat on its side) and perhaps get ahold of the centerboard firmly enough to yank it out. I've found that the lines that raise and lower the board get jammed between it and the casing, although rocks can also jam it if the boat is beached. The board can be encouraged by alternatly yanking on the back / bottom end of the board and the line. Another trick I've thought of, but not tried yet, is to drill a hole in the top of the centerboard cover, roughly 2/3 of the way towards the back. Then stick in a wood dowel and wack it to drive the board out.

l2 01 01 Hi! i also have a widgeon which i just purchased. centeboard comes down normal. the lever that lowers the centerboard does not align with the stops. i would expect that you have gravel in the center board housing or the centerboard has been damage. tip boat over to a 90 degree angle and check. give me your address and port.
