Centerboard repair

I am in the process of buying a Mariner 19. I am pretty excited about it as this is my first boat.The centerboard is very rusted and pitted and I would like to clean it up and paint it. The boat is on a trailer. I would like to know if someone has get to the centerboard for repairs and, if necessary, removal.Also, if anyone has any information about the Mariner 19 that might be useful to me, I would appreciate it.Sincerely,Michael Olivierjmolivier@bplb.com

centerboard access

Access to the board, while the boat is on the trailer can be difficult.If you lower the front of the trailer to the ground, there is usually enough clearance to put a sawhorse or something under the stern. Tie off the stern to a heavy or stationary object, and pull the trailer forward. The boat will remain and the trailer will slide out froom under the boat. Don't pull it all the way forward. (Don't forget to untie the boat from the rear of the trailer). Pull the trailer forward just until there is clearance under the boat at the forward edge of the centerboard slot. Dig a hole about 3 feet deep. Drop the board into the hole, and access the entire board. When finished, repeat the process in reverse.

Raising the boat

I had to lift my 20' to repair a broken centerboard. I put a beam under the bow(right in front of the well) and using floor jacks raised the bow. I then blocked the boat in this position using a few stout blocks and was able to drop my centerbaord completely out of the well by unbolting it and sliding it backwards to the ground.
