While staying onboard my 1994 23.5, I was always bother by the banging of the centerboard when at acnhor and the waves crossed the boat from side to side. I lived with this since I purchased the boat in 1996.During the recent haul for bottom paint I discovered a few problems.1. The bottom of the boat forward of the centerboard well had four cracks greater than 6 inches in length.2. The centerboard had lateral movement of 10 inches or more at the bottom of the centerboard. This caused the centerboard to bang on the metal mounting bracket. We believe this caused the cracks.Upon removal of the centerboard I found the centerboard sleeve and pin had to much clearance. I also found the the mounting bracket for the centerboard had teflon shims on the lower part but none high to limit swing.I work with the local machine shop and marine repair. We built and sleeve and pin. This solved one problem. The repair yard repair the cracks and re-enforced the area. However the concern by all was the fact that if the bracket did not have upper shims the problem would re-appear. I then added shims to the upper part of the mounting bracket and reduce the lateral movement to less than 1 inch. The marine reapir and machine shop (both are sailors) feel that this will resolve the crack issue. I know that it will resolve the noise issue.I have posted pictures detailing the changes to bracket. Let me know what you think.Thank Dave Royce
