Centerboard problem

The line to haul in the centerboard seems to be stuck. There is no play at all like one would think if it was broken. I can push the centerboard up from under water, but it of course will not stay up. We had to tie line around the cabin to hold it up for loading. I can't see how to get to the line to replace it. Help...

If you start at the top...

remove the mast step to check out the turning blocks for the centerboard line. There may be a jam up top. I believe from there it goes down the front of the compression post. Below that I'm not sure what the setup is. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Another Question?

I was looking at the manual for my 23.5 and was wondering if it is possible to drop the centerboard by removing the middle bunks on the trailer, the only other way seems to be putting the boat on a lift. Mine is fine now but I wish I had thought to replace the line last time I painted the bottom.

For Rick Webb

I'm impressed Rick, you have a way of seeing the simple approach to things. Last time I painted the bottom of my 23.5 I blocked it up on the trailer and I don't think I want to do that again...a little too thrilling. I wonder if the center bunk on the trailer carries anything more than just the weight of the centerboard? If not, I could jack up the trailer, remove the center bunk, paint the bottom abd service the halyard for the centerboard. After the paint dries I could block up one end, then the other and paint the spots where the hull rests on the trailer. What do you think? Alan Long S/V Random Access (94 23.5)

Sounds Like it Would Work

Thanks Alan, but it is just because I am lazy. Might even be easier if you pulled the boat up onto car ramps to get a little extra room under the trailer. The center bunk I do not think holds any weight at all, try stepping on it next time you put the boat in the water. Seems like alot more trouble than using the travel lift but I gues that depends on what it costs you were you are at.
