Centerboard pin

I need to replace the pin that the centerboard swings on. The last owner had a piece of aluminum wedged in to hold it. I don't know what the correct pin would be or where to get one. Does anyone know what I need and where to buy it? This is for a 1973 O'Day 23. Thanks.

A Big Bolt

David, I had to remove the centerboard on my 1972 23', and the centerboard pivoted on a large bolt thru the keel. There were either aluminum or zinc spacers on the outside of the keel, and there was a cotter pin in the end of the bolt. It was a standard English size bolt; I just can't remember what size. I hope this helps!

Stainless Pin with cotter pins

Did this to my 72 O'Day 23 about 18 years ago. I had a stainless pin made, with cotter pins on either side and a plastic bushing for each end. The pin goes thru the old pin (now holes), that was some sort of plastic that held the orgional center board in. I also made a new CB, thinner than the origional one.

I see you have attacked the center board problem and may have solved a problem I have. I Purchased a 72 23 O'Day the end of last season. I am concerned about the center board pin because there is some rust on the outside of the skoal keel. I would like to remove the keel and clean/repair/replace/paint the inside and centerboard. Could you tell me how you removed the keel? Is it neccessary to remove the keel to do the maintenance or can all be done by removing the cable stanchion in the cabin? Appreciate any assistance or direction.

Had the yard do it

When it was done the board was stuck in the CB well. The yard dropped the keel, drilled out the plastic pin and yanked the board. I then sailed for several years without a board, then made one and had the pin made. I have not solved the problem of rust build up in the CB well, it is too narrow to sand blast. If you figure that one out please let me know. You will need a lift to lift the boat off the keel, there are 6 or 8 bolts holding it on. If you have more questions email me at vze24yfj@verizon.net.
