How often does the centerboard pennant need to be replaced? How do I check the condition of the pin? I have no leaks or 'chattering' and boat sails well. Thanks

3 years ago I replaced my pennant so I figured I would also replace the pin. The old pin showed little signs of wear and didn't need to be replaced. My boat is an "81 with probably less than average sailing hours. If you see signs of wear on the pennant where it exits the trunk when hoisted fully up I would say replace it. That is where mine parted.

On my two boats, I did not know how old the pendants were. On my Harpoon, there is an up and downhaul line which moves the CB up and down. If the downhaul line were to break, the board would float up, and the boat would be pretty much unsailable. The two lines looked old and worn, so I opted to replace them. Same thing on the O'day 192, in that the line looked dirty and worn, so I opted to replace it. I have a compulsion about ratty line, and I replace it unless I know I put it there and that it's in good shape.

As for the pivot pin on the 192, I have not replaced it. Everything else seems in good shape, and my understanding is that the wedges and delrin rod hold up really well. I'm not sure I feel like getting into it, so I'll pretend it's good until it's not :D
