Centerboard Pendant Tube Repair Question

A few times I've posted about my issues with my centerboard getting stuck in the up position.
1st year I thought it was swelling with water and getting stuck. Nope.
2nd year the yard and I thought the thickness of the eye splice was getting caught in a groove worn into the pendant tube so I switched from 5/16 to 1/4 line. It still got stuck up.
When I pulled the boat this past fall I took a good look at the shackle. It appears to be larger than needed and looks like a repurposed halyard shackle so I will be getting a new one.
But, yesterday I squeezed under the boat and cradle to get a good look. Out of several hundred blind shots with my iPhone I got about 3 good ones of the pendant tube with groove and 1/4" line.
Posted below is the best of the three. The white area near the top appear to be scratches in the gelcoat from the shackle.

The groove is deep enough that I am going try to fix it this year.

I'm thinking about some type of thin walled tubing with a flared end that I can epoxy into the tube.
I probably could even use something like 3/8"wide 1/16" flat stock with a bend in the end epoxied in to cover the groove and provide a smooth surface for the pendant line.

Was wondering what you guys thought?

I just replaced mine . I got up there with a dremel grinder. I smoothed the hole and then epoxied the entire hole with some marine tex and then grinded some more.

I'm impressed. I didn't think a dremel would get up into that area. Nice job!!!

I used a dremel 100 with an extension feature duct tapped on a stick. It works great.

I also replaced the centerboard and sanded the centerboard down on both sides so it does not stick at all. Rudy told me I could take off a 1/8" on both sides. I used a piece of paper to determine where it rubbed and the bottom paint scuffs it created after I tried to stuff it up there. Now I have to re-epoxy the centerboard and paint it. It moves quite freely after 20 man hours of sanding and fitting (and a finger my buddy lost in the sander. OOPS). It is not worth the finger but hopefully Ill get another 20 years out of this centerboard.

Thats a great idea. I can do that to clean out the end of the pendant tube to prep for epoxying the bushing I'm installing.

Ouch!!!

I did that to my CB the first year, thinking that was why it was sticking up. Turned out that wasn't the reason but had to rule it out.

Nice job!
