Centerboard on Daysailer II

I just got a Daysailer II which has been neglected for many years. The centerboard freely moves downward...particularly when trying to move the boat on the trailer. I removed the centerboard pivot bolt and dropped the centerboard out of the boat. There is one cable attached to the board on the 'top' when the board is horizontal and a line attached to the 'bow end' when the board is horizontal. There is also a square depression on the centerboard near the pivot point. How can I lock the centerboard in the up position for trailering? What's the best arrangement for the cables to raise and lower the centerboard? What's the purpose of the hole in the top of the centerboard trunk, closer to the stern? How should the lines/cables run from the centerboard trunk to the cockpit? Thanks, Peter Youngblood pyoungbl@aol.com

A little info - more questions

Your problem sounds the opposite of mine. First of all - my centerboard is rigged with a rope and pulley that is achored at the mast foot, and comes out back out through the bulkhead. That ties off to a cleat in the side of the centerboard - holding the centerboard in place. My problem is different - mine won't go down. :( There is a rope coming out of the hole of the top of the centerboard trunk that you mentioned - but I question if mine is attached to anything - doesn't seem to help. Last time I went sailing I had to go overboard and kick the sucker loose. Sounds like dropping the centerboard may be how to fix my problem - but if anyone has a better suggestion I'd apreciate hearing it.
