I sail a '98 Hunter 240 on Mobile Bay. She stays in the water 99% of the time except for during hurricanes. It is time now to do a little preventive maintenance and replace the centerboard uphaul line. I have read all of the posts in the archives on how to do this. The question that I have is what is the best type of line to use as a replacement. I would need something resistant to being in the water almost all of the time (the end attached to the centerboard), and perferably something with low stretch to make raising the darn thing a little easier. Any advice that you guys could give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, W. T. S/V "Joy"

H240 Centerboard Line Replacement

Here's the running rigging specs for your boat from Jim Seaman's site. Calls for 3/8 and 5/16 inch Low stretch (XLS & LS) braided line. http://www.ayesail.net/sailing/Hunter/ManualH260/Page46A.htm When you start talking about running rigging, the experts can make your head (and wallet) hurt. You want low stretch UV resistant line. Also, I'd avoid some of the more expensive slick line that does not tolerate knots well. Give these specs to your local chandlery and they'll fix you up. I'm not an expert here but I think the LS, XLS, and SLS designations stand for Low Stretch, Extra Low Stretch and Super Low Stretch respectively.
