I currently have an oday 25 which is a construction project. Winter has just begun and have some water in the bilge. Pumped that out and tilted boat slightly aft to keep water flowing out. When I did this I noticed water leaking out where the centerboard line travels out of the hull. After closer inspection found out that someone has performed cosmetic surgery on a faulty thru hull. Complete with pvc pipe acting as housing for the centerboard line. I will have to cut away the fiberglass on top of fiberglass to get to the problem. My question is: What material should I use for the housing? Does fiberglass stick to pvc? A buddy told me he has metal conduit for his. Also there is a bend built in towards the cockpit. Is this standard? Maybe someone has a picture of what its suppose to look like. Sorry about so many words. Thanks for your time. Getting back out on the water next spring or sooner. California joe

If the weather is nice tommorrow, I'll go to the boat and take pictures. Mine has conduit under the cockpit sole for the centerboard line. Yes, it makes a bend to enter the cabin area at the bilge. There is a rubber boot that connects between the conduit and the "fiberglass area" in the bilge before it turns 90 degrees going down the trunk. I've never removed the boot so I do not "what lies beneath" the boot. Sorry I can't be more help but hopefully the pictures will speak 1000 words. Good luck on the re-build. Mark

Your 25 is 79 or newer?
The older models had the tube up through the galley to a block and into the cockpit. Can you take a picture of where the damage is? Is it in the step or under the icebox? r.w.landau

A metal pipe
Hi Joe: My 22 footer has a centerboard with a pennant that runs through a metal tube that is faired into the bottom of the hull with liberally applied fiberglass resin at the bottom of the pipe. It seems to be a factory applied job and they were very generous in slopping resing all over the pipe up to several inches above the hull line. The thing looks like when you stick a spoon into a thick, gooey batter and then pull it out. Hope that helps. I guess the folks at O'Day thought that more resin is better when detailling out this little through-hull condition. So far, it's been leak free and seems solid enough. Hope this helps.
