I will be replacing the line for the centerboard on Monday. Pat Adam's thread is great.
However, my boat is an hour away and I want to make sure I have all the right tools to do do the job.

Question: What size of socket is needed for the bolt holding the centerboard bracket. I gather the thread size is 3/4 inch. I bought a length of 3/4 inch rod to help align everything back.

I pulled mine last year but I don't recall the socket size. You're right that it's a 3/4" thread and you'll want a threaded rod about 18" to alighn it on the re-install.

Here's what my old one looked like. The upside is that I still have the old bolt on my shop bench so if I can find it I'll check it tonight and shoot out a response. Can't say what caused it as most of the boats life has been spent on a lift or on a trailer. My guess is lightning. Either way I'd go prepared to replace it if it's a one shot operation.

I retreaded my with the board up. With a coat hanger a bit of patients it took about 20 minutes.

I was just rooting through my tool box, and have up to 1 1/4 sockets in 16th of inch increments. If the bolt is metric I have only up to 23mm...

So if we could narrow it down to metric or imperial size measurements that would be a great help.

Checked my original corroded/burned old 3/4" CB bolt and the socket size is 1-1/8". I used a long 1/2" breaker bar and a 6" extension to get at it down in the recess. Make sure you lather up the bolt head with 5200 after it's back in place. Some will panic that 5200 is too tough but all it'll need to get any 5200 back off(if it's even needed) is a little heat from a hair dryer or a heat gun and it'll turn to putty. In the mean time it'll be one less potential leaky spot.

Have fun, mike
