Centerboard crank and gear breakdown

My Alden yawl is a center boarder as I think all the Zephyrs are. The center board is raised and lowered
on a metal rope that runs thru a block on the cabin ceiling to a rod threaded to a worm gear attached to the ceiling.
the worm gear is driven by a crank on the outside of the cockpit bulkhead. For reasons that are not clear the wormgear creates preasure on the cockpit bulkhead and lately its housing pushed through the bulkhead. Does anyone
have similar experience, or a diagnosis. Can't tell why this is happening.

I was hoping someone would reply to your post, I guess I don't understand. Did the screw mechanism pull through into the cabin? As I just changed my cable this spring, I had the cover off the screw mechanism. I may recall the actual mechanism was screwed to the overhead as well as held to the bulkhead with a plate on the outside.

Can elaborate on what happened? Have a photo? Thanks
