Hi all, I have a 1969 Pearson Wanderer that is in need of a new centerboard cable. Mine is broken and way beyond help. Any ideas would be a great help. Where to buy one, is any make better than another. I am sure stainless steel is the way to go these days. I don't have a clue where to start looking. My wanderer is on the hard right now and this is the time to tackle the project. Thanks.

Not sure about a pearson but I believe most cables are just heavy stainless cables with a perticular "type" of end on it that fits your board hook up. Can't you see how the one that is broke was installed ? Just have another cable like that made.

I have an ODay with a centerboard and the only access to it is when its hanging from the travelift straps and the board is down and then there is a stainless cable with a small eye swagged and a small stainless shackle to connect it to the center board
Then the cable goes up through the centerboard trunk to a hole thats connected to a pipe that goes up to a winch and I also had to crimp a stop on the end of the cable after I inserted it into the winch drum
If you don't have the cable then a small piece of rope will do to measure and then get 1/4 or 3/16 cable

My local Lowe's sells 3/16" SS cable- it is what I used to replace the CB cable on my Mac 26S. - Paul
What you need is 316 or 303/304 7X19 SS wire as it is similar to halyard wire and will flex around a sheave or winch drum. 7x7 is stiffer and used for lifelines. 1x19 is used for standing rigging. If you knew how to make an eye splice, or have access to nicropress sleeves and sweage tool you could make it up yourself. If your board is light and you normally pull it up by hand, you might consider making one up like a wire/dacron halyard, which would be mostly wire with a dacron tail that can be pulled up and secured to a cleat.
Most riggers, boatyards or hardware dealers like west marine can make up anything you want.
