Hello All,
It looks like I am finally going to purchase and Albin Vega.
I am flying out to New York to buy Hans Heiduck's Flicka later this week.
I've got an e-z loader adjustable trailer, but was wondering where I can find info on the keel width and center of gravity for the Vega, so that I can get it close to fitting the boat before I drive out and pick it up.

Does anyone know this info?
Thanks -Tim

Tim,
You might be able to estimate your measurements if you download the pdf Vega manual. I believe it is at the yahoo vega main page if you hunt around..
I think saiboats usually try to have their centers somewhere in the vacinity of below the mast?

Tim,
You probably want to do a search of past messages on towing as well.
Probably some tricks you may want to know of .. if there are any. I know nothing about towing.

I built our trailer for the Vega. There are pics of the Vega on the trailer in the Photo section under Albin Vega 1493 so you can get a basic idea of where the boat should be on the trailer. My tongue weight is about 700 lbs, or just under 10% of the load.

Tim,
When I converted my trailer I found the boat's point of fore/aft balance to be about 1.22 meters (4' 0") AFT of the centerline of the mast, or 4.435 meters (14' 6 5/8") aft of the point of the bow. I placed this point over the centerline of the forward axle. Don't know the tongue weight, but I could'nt lift it, and the rig towed well. I have an AutoCad sketch of my rig, if it's any use to you let me know.
Hope this helps,
Peter.

Ooops .... bad URL. Sorry about that!
The plan is on the Vega Yahoo site, files section, 'Vega Lines Plans' folder, stowage plan.

Thanks for the info.
I just got a back from Long Island, measuring the boat and checking it out.
I found the c.o.g in the users manual, and Peter's measurement from the bow is what I measured in the field as well. Peter, if you have the autocad files handy, I would interested in looking at them before I start adjusting the trailer.

What do you guys use to pull the Vega on the trailer? I'll be pulling it from Long Island back to the Deserts of Colorado in the next few weeks and am not looking forward to the Appalachian mountains....-Tim

Tim,
I put the drawing in the files section, in the "Vega Lines Plans" folder. Hope this helps a bit.
As far as the tow vehicle, I just have two words for you: Turbo Diesel!
I towed Sin Tacha with a '98 Dodge Turbo Diesel pickup, with no problems at all. This included backing up a 600' 15% grade incline with a right-angle bend at the top. The truck was a two wheel drive unit, so I put four 45 gallon drums of water in the back for added traction on the hill. No Problems :)
