Jim, two things come to mind.

First, when you sail, do you take up the extra tension on the centerboard halyard? If you do not, the water will spin your centerboard Halyard and so when you do pull the center board up, the line has twists in it and it binds in the halyard tube. Second thought, the centerboard has a stainless "U" shaped band that connects the halyard to the center board. That could be bent. Some boats have small shackles that connects the halyard to the centerboard. If the shackle enters the halyard tube, it can jamb. In the Great Lakes area, zebra mussels can fill the centerboard trunk or grow on the centerboard to make it tight. In my area we have a .... I am not sure what to call it, a jelly looking blob that grows in our lake. If you beach the boat , it could be mud or rocks stuck in the housing. The last and worst situation, if you have damaged the leading edge of the centerboard. It is taking on water and expanding and is now jambing in the centerboard trunk. I hope this gives you places to look. Let us know if you have further info as to what has caused the problem. Also let us know what you find that caused it. Jim would you please edit your post and delete your link. The link is a pain to deal with. r.w.landau

Stiff one

Jim, I hope that this is not the way my boat is allso as I dont want to dive under my boat to lower the center board and yours to, I can't see my center board on my boat as I have a different trailer than you but I think that if you get under your boat and look at the front of your center board you will find that there is four bolts two on eather side of the center board if you take these out the center board should drop down to get to the center board shaft and bushing's if you need help give me a call I will be in Verdi this weekend 10/28/06 to install a TV at my mothers house I will stop by when I am done with that. PS: lets go delta sailing Have fun, Gino

I think the 222 is similar,,

From what I have read, the original centerboard pendant and line was a cable from the centerboard then changed to a braided line up to the cockpit.. Just pulled my centerboard out of the shoal keel yeaterday and found that there is no cable and the braided line is attached to about a 3" shackle that is afixed to the centerboard. So mine may not be original. I'm thinking the cable might have elininated the twisting and coiling of a loose line when the centerboard is all the way down leaving much slack in the line. I can understand r.w.landau's thinking.
