Centerboard Repair

I have a Spindrift 22 with a centerboard which I trailer.

The rope controlling the centerboard has broken and it will not lift the centerboard.

I believe the centerboard just flops down when the boat enters the water.

I can see a line of screws on the floor of the cabin that apparently holds the covering/casing that covers the centerboard mechanism.

Has anyone ever removed the covering for a centerboard to repair it? Is there anything I need to know before I remove centerboard casing to get to the centerboard to repair the lifting mechanism ?

Thanks Brad. Looks like a terrific website and forum.

The Rhodes 22 also has that same type of configuration. Yes, you need to take the centerboard cover off. You will find a few blocks attached to the trailing edge of your board. You pass a new line through those blocks (gives you a mechanical advantage). Then you need to make sure you put a backing seal on the trunk before you put the cap back on. Butyl Tape seems to be the stuff of choice but any high quality caulk should do the trick.
