Center board issues

Ever since I bought my H260 I have found it very hard to pull up the swing keel. It takes all the power of the winch to get it to come up and it feels like something is going to snap. The centerboard on my brothers H26 comes up just pulling on the rope without the use of the winch. The pulley routing of the rope is the same on both boats. Anybody have any suggestions short of dropping the keel and seeing if the pin and roller in the holding bracket are defective? Any info would be help full.

I've sailed the 240 for years. It's smaller than yours and I can't get the keel up without using a winch handle. Nothing has ever snapped or broken.

Note the line is (should be) the heaviest on your boat and it's rigged through a block system on the deck to help you hoist it. I think you've nothing to worry about.

Do you have 2 blocks installed on the centerboard uphaul line? When I got my H26, the PO only had one block installed, which made it much harder to hoist the centerboard. If there are no blocks it would be very hard to pull up.

All the blocks are as in the drawing. The rollers and rope look to be in good shape (in the slot as well). The slot is very clean (no growth). The top roller has some silicone gumming up the lower part. I guess someone did that to stop a leak under the mast step plate. Can anyone tell me how to remove and clean that roller. The heads of two of the screws holding down the step plate are stripped.

Does anyone have an idea on how much the centerboard of a H260 is supposed to weigh?

I've been told 100-110 lbs. It feels like a million lbs. when rasslin with it to replace the uphaul line.

I've had my 240 for 7 years now and have always found the centerboard a little though to raise; I too keep thinking the line will snap, but it hasn't! The previous owner had put a bit of electrical tape on the line so you can easily tell when the board is up and stop cranking on it.
