Cell phone "waterproofing"

I have no idea how well it works but even at $60 plus shipping for an iPhone I am intrigued.

For this who don't want to follow the link it is a vacuum vapor deposited coating that is "almost invisible" to the naked eye and even protects against short term complete immersion. If anyone has more info or has tried this I would love to hear your experiences.

I would assume it's not very effective after reading the disclaimer at the end of the You Tube video.

My cell phone took swimming lessons. Turns out it does not swim well, even after all those lessons, and now it works well as a paperweight.

Looks like a neat product.

Freezer Zip lock Bags work grate for me and have one that went flying from me and my jet ski and it still works today and thy cost how much Just my 2 cents??

I'll 3rd the zip lock bags. As we have a Hefty budget we opted for the fancy tandem zip bags. Glad we did...

For the iPhone and soon the iPad, this is currently the best solution by far. I've used it to take video of my keel and bottom. Survives drops too. Spendy but worth it.

Interesting. The price is about the same (if you include shipping) too. I hope they include some mounting mechanism on the iPad case.

I’m thinking that is pretty much half my budget for fuel for a year.

I just got an Aquabox very nice easy to use look at Marinas or on Ebay OH by the way a zip lock baggie works to I went in the water with my phone in one and it did just fine.

I don't understand the relevance. It is also 20% of the cost of replacing the iPhone or 10% of the cost to replace an iPad. Those numbers are at least relevant to the topic at hand. It is also about 3% of the cost of a 9" color chartplotter.

I nodded off in the tub several months ago. I woke up from the "GULP" the water made when it swallowed my iPhone. I reached in quickly, shut it off, and heated the device a bunch to dry it out.

Daily, everyday, sometimes three times, I have to hard start my iPhone because it has turned off.

Bags are OK if you use them. I hate the bag, and while near by, it was not on my phone when I needed it.

I would say this product would be worth the $60 bucks.

So cares what it's made of??

It's very well designed and engineered, and works perfectly. As for the price, I'd say worth it. It's small enought that you can leave your phone in it all the time. Baggies and big boxes are OK, but I'm on and off boats all the time. Half the time I forget.

You've never wanted/needed to see your prop/strut/impeller/keel but the water was too cold?

I too have a Lifeproof case and it is absolutely the best case for water proofing, Best Buy is carrying them now as well.

I dropped an older cell phone in the drink. The sad part was that it was in shallow water and I was able to see it and grab it. After that I started putting them in ziplock bags. They work good enough.

The convenience of having smart phones and internet are nice. The odd part is that I find myself actually wanting to go away from the cell phone when I am not working. I need to keep contact with my family etc, and it is nice to check the radar when weather is moving in, but it is a tether in a lot of ways and when I am out I want to break that tether. I get sick of seeing people with the phones attached to their ears all of the time.
