I got my Davis sextant

on ebay for $70 and bought a book on the subject from Celestaire. I already had all the other navigation tools that are listed. Check with Celestaire (www.celestaire.com??), they have lots of cool stuff. I don't know how their prices compare to Landfall's but I've bought several things from them. You'll need the current tables to make any sense out of your "shots" and I don't think they were included in the Landfall kit.

A Davis mark 3 sextant and almanac pages from the web

will get you started for much less than and serious navigation sextant and nautical almanac. You need a quartz watch pencil, paper, sight reduction tables either in print or on the web or a calculator formula. Until and unless you plan to actually used celestial this will be enough.
