Is there somebody that could help a stranded sailor(in Ft Pierce). I am a swede that wants to buy a H37 cherubini. BUT the rules of the european community says that the boat needs to be classified with a CE-certification. Does anybody know how to get around this rule or how to get a american cert that surely will be better than this CE. You guys sail BLUE WATER for god sake!! I fell in love with the Hunter 37. I am planning to sail it over to europe next summer. Regards Jörgen Bergman

CE - may not apply to used boats...

You should check with the European country that you wish to register the boat with. CE standards are pretty recent and the Hunter 37 Cherubini was build from 1978 to 1985 when CE and many other regulations of today did not exist. You may need a local inspection or certification. I work in the printing industry and equipment that was build prior to CE norms are exported and re-installed in European countries without major problems with the exception of safety issues. ce rating

There is more to the CE rating then a certificate and it is not a rating that is based on American being better then the European rating. The rating is a based on the boats capabalities and systems. The US boats are CE rated but not issused a "certificate" (see web site of boat mfg and most will list the "CE" in the spec)The biggest difference is the electrical systems. The US and Europe use different power systems and a US boat will not get a "CE" certificate with out changing the electrical system to be compadable with Europe.Hunter and Catalina will build you a boat that has a "CE" cert but charge extra. Maybe contact Hunter and see if they can "retro" a boat (or tell you what you need to do and who can certify it) Also check with the authorities in what ever country you will be putting the boat in and see what they require. My personal thougth is this may be more then it is worth to do and to deal with the goverment agencys that deal with this. Not to mention getting the boat to Europe.I'm sure that there will be other opinions offered and I would be interested to see what they have to say. Good Luck !
