Today I decided to tackle the maintenance of the CDi 470 steering pedestal. This boat is new to me, and, having always had tiller steering, so is the wheel pedestal.
The pedestal has 3 zerk fittings so I started with the easiest one on the top. Connected up the grease gun loaded with the recommended super lube grease and pumped it in. The old grease came out as expected and all was good.
On to the second zerk which is on the aft side of the pedestal near the top. Connected the gun and pumped what seemed like a lot of grease but did not see any old grease escaping anywhere. Eventually moved on to the third fitting at the aft of the base of the pedestal where I encountered the same result. My question is should I be seeing the old grease escaping and if so where does it escape from. If I don't see it then how much grease do I need to put in?
Many thanks
Tim
