I have a 1986 25 tanzer with a CDI roller reefer. I want to know if i can remove the mechanism without unstepping the mast.Has anyone ever done this? i prefer hank on sails. Is there any market for a used furler? thanks, Vic
It's possible. Drop the sail, tie a halyard off forward, pull the pin that keeps the foil and drum together. Lift the drum, unscrew the turnbuckle, and slip off the whole unit. Careful here, as it could slip off calamitously! Maybe two people at this point?
Re-connect the turnbuckle.
Post a Craigslist ad with a rockin' price. G'luck!
Captainvic,
If the furler is in sections be careful as you remove each section. Two small, internal "c" shaped connectors secure each section to the one above it. Don't drop them! They can't swim!
Best Wishes, Phil
thanks for the advice.removed the roller furling today.had to take all the sections apart.put on craigslist for $200.with all the parts, installation instructions and paperwork.
