CDI furler on an ODay 28
We installed an CDI FF6 with ball bearings on our O28 and it worked flawlessly for the four years we had the boat. Mike is correct in that you can only tension the headstay with the backstay after the furler is installed, but Mike races a lot (and well), but, as cruisers, we found the CDI to be robust enough for everything we put the boat through, and that was plenty. The maintenance is to rinse the assemblt with fresh water periodically, and that seems to have worked well. I think there are other threads you can track for more input. The cost of a CDI is significantly less than most other furlers, as well, and, yes, you CAN reef with a CDI. Efficient, no, usable, yes. FWIW,Bill Coxe, O40 Kukulcán, New Bern, NC
