cdi roller furling for O'Day 222

Hi...have an O'Day 222, 1986..would like to find a cdi roller furling for jib but find prices a bit more than I can afford, even on the internet..any used units or are they worth it..thanks, Ron

Ron. Cdi is we worth the money. my 1984 oday had the original small roller and for stay set up.in winds over15 knots it was impossible to furl even a small working jib. with my cdi I have been using a 130% genoa and have had no problems. at over 20 knots it is hard work keeping the head to wind and hauling on the furling line single handed, but it can be done. use the thickest line possible for the drum and check it out first in light winds, if line is to large it may jam up in the drumm. the 222 is a good safe boat there are several in the area.

So... how would you do it?

My 222 has the original Schafer Small Boat Furler which is simply a lower drum and an upper spindal. Drum->luff wire->spindal->halyard, separate from the fore stay. It gives a way to adjust the luff of the head sail. If I went to the FF2 woould I use the fore stay and abondon the original rig? I bought the boat last fall and the head sail was brand new cut for the original set-up.
