Going to install a CDI Felexable Furler on my Oday 22. Anyone got any tips or tricks to share.

Check your halyard

When I installed mine, I raised the mast and furler at the same time, attached the forestay, etc - only to find I had left the halyard in the UP position. Read the instructions thoroughly a few times and get lots of help is my only advice - good luck.

A few

First things first.When you go to cut the extrusion,cut all but one of the tapes.Then stand on the coil and cut the last one.There is a surprising amount of energy stored up.The second is to measure ,measure and measure the extrusion before you cut it.The third important thing to remember is the angle that the furling line comes off the drum and leads to the cockpit needs to to be as close to 90 degrees as possible.We've had two CDI furlers and will likely be looking at another on our next boat.

O'Day 192 Info

I installed a CDI firler on my O'Day 192 in April of this year. The provider used my old forestay to set up the extrusion length.On the first attempt, the extrusion and top fitting would not rotate until I removed the old jib halyard and pulley from the front of the mast. I had wanted to leave the pulley and halyard for emergency use of the ols jib but I had to abandon that idea. This mistake caused multiple raising and lowering of the mast - not a great problem on the 192 but it could be a bigger problem on a larger boat.You probably don't have as big a problem if they made up the extrusion with your actual frontstay.That said, I've been very pleased with the performance on the 192 and wished I'd done it several years ago.Tim

Thanks for the advice. The furler was installed this morning. It works great and the mast was only stepped once.LArry
