After doing some research and talking to a few people I opted for a CDI roller furl for my 1975 Pearson 26W. There were 2 reasons I finally chose this brand. First. the furler drum sits only a couple of inches off the deck. Second. the furler comes with a 6 year warranty. Hope I made the right choice. I would appreciate hearing from anyone that has one of these that might be able to give me some tips, do, donts ect Thanks Bob

CDI tips...

I'm in my 2nd season with a CDI on my O'Day 302. No problems at all. I feel I made a good choice. Be careful with the plastic extrusion. It really is a two-person job to unwind it. CDI recommends unwinding the extrusion as soon as you get it and to install it right away. They also say if you don't follow their recommendations, you could void the warranty. Unfortunately, I was not able to install mine for 6 months!!! I left the extrusion unwound on the deck during the winter and the shape distorted a little. When the time came to finally install it, I put the extrusion lying flat on the ground in the sun for several hours. It mostly straightened out. There is still a small 'S' shape even as it sits on the forestay, but in no way does it hamper the performance. If the rigging on your boat is old, then check the forestay fittings to be sure they are NOT hex shape. If they are, you'll need to replace them. You should do this before getting the CDI so you can install the extrusion right away. Everything else about the installation was straight forward and the manual was comprehensible after a couple of read-throughs. Dave
