The cost diffrence is substantial. Most people seem happy with the CDI system. I do coastal sailing and not racing, so blue water ruggedness is not required. I plan on owning this O'Day 25 for about 3 more years and I doubt I would wear out the gear. It's a big investment for me, so some feedback would be nice. Thanks.

CDI

I haven't owned a CDI system for many years, but I think they are the best designed small boat system on the market. They are virtually bullet proof. You can't do any better for the money (or for much more either). Jim

Thank you for the responces

Thank you for your responces. This summer I seemed to encounter either 25 knot winds or dead calm conditions, sometimes only 15 minutes apart. I'm thinking this system should give me the control I need when I need to trim sail and get the boat back under control. I don't enjoy a 40+ degree heel, though the O'Day will put up with it, mostly.

Another vote for CDI

I have used the CDI FF2 (without the bearing add-on) for my O'Day 222 and it works great. The comments I got when I was researching this was that the ball-bearing unit was not needed for a 22 foot boat. The loads will be greater on a larger boat, so you may want to consider the ball-bearing add-on. I would also suggest you check the archives of this site, since this question has come up a few times in the last couple of years. Dave s/v Hakuna Matata O'Day 222

go with cdi

I'd go with the CDI, sinmple and like you said, a LOT cheaper than Harken.... It works great on my C-22 and I also did research before I purchased it...
