Cdi II drum spool separation

Can anyone tell me why the spool rides up out of the cup on my CDI II flexfurl. It is the model that has a horizontal hole through which you lace the small halyard and an eyemount on the pin that supports the extrusion that you shackle the tack (?) to. I'm sure this is clear as mud. I did read the post abouat a pin thru the foil but I'm a little unclear about just where to look for the hole, assuming the pin is missing

IIRC 2 things hold it down, gravity and the reefing line. When does it ride up?

The reefing line needs to go through a pulley or fairlead to ensure that the force exerted on it tends to pull the drum down and not upwards.

to every one who responded. I'm thinking I may have the jib too tight because it wants to spring up out of the cup without the reefing line or the sheets attatched. I just got the boat and must assume that the previous owner had it set up to work properly but I've already moved the first fairlead inboard to help it clear the edges of the cup. I'm guessing the whole furling system should slide up and down the forstay pretty easily when everything is right.

Your jib sheet blocks are too far aft. You need to move them forward. I would guess that currently your leech is pretty loose and your foot is very tight.
Put tell tales about a foot behind the luff. There should be at least three tell tales. One high, one half way down and one low. Move you block forward so that all three telltales fly back at the same time. If the top one flys back first, the block is too far forward. If the bottom tell tlae flys back first, the block is too far back. They should all stream back at the same time.
The drum should never ride up the forestay.

You aren't using a jib halyard on the mast are you?

I did re-read the manual more closely and have some amunition for my next try at the furler. When I said "I may have the jib too tight" I meant that I've pulled down on the small halyard that threads thru the horizontal hole in the spool thinking that it is necessary to have the jib as snug as possible along the luff but maybe that is having a sort of accordian effect on the luff. I'll move the sheet blocks forward and already have the furling line fairlead as far forward and as low as I can get it without re-mounting it to the deck. It looks like it will be an adjustment here and an adjusment there until it is "tuned" the way it needs to be. Thanks for your help all. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Just got around to playing with mine. My luff slips out when pulled and under no load but no probs when things are held together.

I did notice the previous owner had it set up so that the furler line exited to the front side and caused the line to chaff really bad. When replacing the line I also adjusted the smallstrap at the bottom so that the line went straight to the fairlead on deck. Works great.
