PS Survey results for all furlers is excellent
which means that anyone who has one is happy with it. All of them rate very highly on average. The highest average on a 4 pt. scale was Reef-Rite with a 4 and the lowest was Harken at 3.33. CDI had the greatest number of responses (65), in part because Joe Dahmen at CDI mailed out some copies of the form to CDI customers. Outcomes were similar for both the prompted and standard groups. One percentage that stands out in favor of CDI is the percentage of self-installed furlers. 81.8% of those who filled out the survey installed the system themselves. There were two systems (Facnor and Reef-Rite) that were higher (100%) but Facnor had 5 responses and Reef-Rite had 4.The CDI system on my Oday272 is the OEM unit installed in 1986. It is not the flexible furler, but has the linked extrusions common to most other systems. I replaced the split drum in 1997 and added the bearing in 2002, and am pleased with both upgrades. My greatest challenge is not how the unit works. I have always been able to furl or reef the 155 jenny. I worry most when the mast is stepped and unstepped every season because if one of the extrusion links gets bent or kinked, I'm up s--- creek until I drop the mast and install a replacement link. It has only happened once, and I have the spares on hand, but it is always nerve-racking to keep the furler taut until the mast is up or down.Tom
