I've completed the refit of my 1985 O28 and found the jib halyard won't work with the CDI roller furling that, instead, the furler is supposed to have an internal halyard independent from the jib halyard. I've tried to obtain an owner's manual for my furler but they're nonexistant. Contacted CDI and Tom Livingston is very helpful but I'm still stupidly confused about how the darn thing is supposed to work. Does anyone have a similar furler (Mine is no longer made and there are no manuals for it) and/or an owner's manual they could share or sell or make a copy at my expense? Even just some good information about this internal halyard and how it is strung through the hardware of the extrusions, spool at the bottom, fitting at the top of the extrusion. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Joe

Most of the furlers (flex furlers) are the same.

Here is a link that may help you understand the furlers In fact the ff4 may be better. I will try to edit and add that link. r.w.landau Edited, sorry see the next post.

here is the ff4 spec.

If you look at the section view, the part "h" is important. r.w.

Still stumped

Thanks for your response. I have reviewed this blowup of the reefing system and it continues to confuse me because my furler seems substantially different. I don't have the anchor pins shackle nor do I find any opening on the forward part of the extrusion for the internal halyard to exit. I have to go aloft to examine the top fitting attached to the extrusion to determine the presence of a sheave as in the sketch. I don't remember one being there. As I've said, mine is an old one. My furler is not a flex furler. My extrusions are rigid sections surrounding the jib stay.

Joe, Use binoculars to see if you have the top sheave, its part of the last extrusion at the top. The halyard is small line that runs up one of the two slots.(Your sail luff is pulled up the other slot.) The older units could use a full length halyard that was tied off to a cleat on the furling drum, then wound around the upper part of the drum. Hope this helps.....Ron

Joe, if it is not a Flex furler, don't beat

yourself up with my info. Hey, They are nice people at CDI. If you call, you will probably talk to the boss. He should be able to answer your questions. The phone number should be on the spec sheet soemwhere. It it worth your nickle but be kind and honor thier time so that they want to answer the next guys questions. r.w.landau

Joe,

Sounds like you got an old CDI reefer system like I have on my 32, here's a link I found at CDI for parts and maybe you can see which system match's yours. I have an internal halyard and works like Ron described
