If you have a CDI furler, you know that the halyard that is shipped with is not the best quality line and stretches easily. Has anyone swapped it out? If so, what did you do to mimic the metal that is crimped on that keeps the line in the groove?

Thanks!

Never thought about it. CDI might be able to send you one if you say you are replacing yours. Part of it has to be de-cored too.

I don't really want to replace it with what they would supply. I want to replace it with a halyard that has less stretch, like VPC or Sta-Set.

Sorry. Referring to the crimp, not the line. Your new line will need to be de-cored to fit the groove.

I'd just use some 2mm dyneema. Tie a stopper knot in the line where you want that ferrule.

That was my thought when I raised my Genoa: thathalyardisapieceashite!!!
But I never lower the sail, so as long as the halyard doesn't break, I will keep it. Decored line? Ugh!

For a First 235, replace the CDI with a Schaefer SnapFurl. :D

I have seen that CDI can't adjust luff tension very much, because it is dependent on the compression rigidity of the foil. A friend bought a boat with a CDI furler, and the foil had a couple kinks in it, so it wasn't completely straight. Trying to get more luff tension would just bend the foil some.

The Schaefer uses the existing halyard to hoist the sail, and thus offers much more control of luff tension. That's important for winning! :D

I wouldn't have recommended changing furlers for my friend's old boat, because it was a Com-Pac 19, and it wasn't going to win any races for sure! :D

So I can count on your donation to my new furler go fundme campaign? ;)

It was what I could afford last year. It works fine, just that line is crap. During the off season, I will have lots of time to figure it out.

Where can I sign up for the gofundme? :D

I do understand. This year, I decided to just buy a new main, and save the jib for next year. And I'm probably going to stick with a hank on jib, because I don't feel like getting spendy for a sail and the furler! (I probably spent too much fixing up a Force 5, anyway...)

I'm just envious of you, because that 235 would be a sweet boat to have. Fast enough, but nice enough below decks. Someday...
