I just hooked up my new replacement cd player and I have no power. My old unit was a 18 year old Maxxima stereo tuner/cassette tape deck/graphics equalizer that was original equipment on my Hunter legend 37 1988 and when I disconneted it i had power to it. My new unit is a car cd player. I matched up the old speaker wiresin the boat with the new color speaker wires on the new unit and my old red hot line I matched up to my new red hot line from the new cd player with an in line 8 amp fuse.I removed the old 5 amp fuse from the original red hot line, however, on the new unit I have a second hot line called the ignition line with a one amp fuse. What do I do with this line? Also on the speaker wires on the new unit for example I matched up the left front Brown speaker wire on the boat to the new left from speaker wire on the new cd unit which is a white line, however, there is a second front left speaker line on the new unit described as white/black.On the new cd player each speaker has 2 lines a positive and negative one, maybe I have them reversed in my new connections, Are the boat speaker wires positive or negative as only one comes back to the old unit for each speaker. What do I do with these extra wires. Also on the old boat unit I noticed therre is a orange line described as "left com." orange and a right speaker wire "right com." white line . What are these for. Were they for the graphics equalizer?? don't know. I traced my red boat hot line back to the panel which lights up when I flip the toggle switch on. What about reverse polarity with the speakers? Is this a possible caused of my no power if so how do I fix it. Any advice is most appreciated, Thanks you all Barrie

Stereo

Barrie, I just put in a car stereo in my boat, the speaker wires are going to have a pos. and neg. side, the solid color is almost always the pos. side lead the lead with the stripe being neg. side. I had to hook up both hot leads to get minr to power up. The 1 amp side is for your clock, and any memory stations you want to keep, since I keep the breaker off when not in use neither is of any use to me. mine would not work without putting power to the 1 amp side. others have, a jvc thing I suppose. anyway try touching the 1 amp side to your pos. lead and see if it doesn't power up. the com leads from your speakers are the neg. leads imo they will have to be used with the car stereo. good luck and hope this helps you Ken

When in Doubt!

When I am wiring something and I am in doubt, I rewire everything. I just put a stereo in my Hunter 22 and I did all the wiring myself (never was a stereo there). The other power line should be wired directly to the battery. When I did mine I wired that connection directly on the hot lead of the battery with a connecter. Try re-running the speaker wires. That way you will be for sure what wire is what (it also helps to label your wires at both ends so that you know what is what). E-mail me if you have any questions.

CD players

We have a marine CD player and the power works the same way as Ken described. That Red wire is the power for the unit, but it won't work without the other hooked up because that basically powers the faceplate (for lack of a better term). Com sounds like common to me, you should check the schematic that came with the player. You may still have leftover wires. Mine, for instance, has a yellow wire for a power antenna. I'd be careful of wiring it directly to the battery. I like everything (except the bilge pump) off when I leave the boat. You don't really need that clock on all the time, do you?

Huh

Barrie, Read the instructions that came with the radio/CD player. Two wires, how hard can it get? Read yesterdays' post about the same thing. The amount of time you spent typing this question would have been better served by reading the original instructions. Good luck.
