Does anyone in this forum from the East Coast keep their boat in or around Cataumet just south of the Cape Cod Canal? I just bought a slip there and I would like some feed back about the area, marinas and sailing. Any info. appreciated.

Sailing the Cataumet region

I have sailed that part of Buzzard's Bay a few times. It is great. There is access to many ports and harbors. Cataumet can be expensive since it is ON Cape Cod, but you are lucky to get a spot. It is also known as "Pocasset" and is located near Wood's Hole and Falmouth. Plan on using the local currents to your advantage, because they can be tricky. Also, count on weekend and holiday traffic to be a pain. Ideally, having your boat positioned on the North (or West) side of Buzzard's Bay is best. That would eliminate the Cape bottlenecks in the traffic. But you can make your own decision on that in the future.

Thanks, I appreciate that...

I realize that traffic is a factor however, I'm only 28 miles from home and I'll most likely use the back roads through Wareham traveling from Plymouth which are usually not too bad. That should take me into Buzzards Bay center, the tricky part is the Bourne Bridge!! Hope to see you out there.

Kingman or Parkers Boatyard?

I'm guessing it is one or the other.I kept my boat at Kingman's off and on for years.Great sailing to Elisabeth Islands,Marion,or just out on the Bay. Email me at franmara@aol.com and I would be happy to give you some in depth info on the area.

Nice location

Last year, the local Catalina group (OSCA) went there for a night. Very pretty and the restaurant there is always full. It is tough getting in and out of the harbor, especially on a low tide. If your draft is anything above 5', you need to be careful getting in and out. We had several boats get stuck and one hit a rock. Les Murray s/v Ceilidh '86 C-36 #560
