We're planning to attend the Catalina West Coast Rendezvous this year (for the first time). I'd like to hear comments from those who've been before or who are planning to attend this July. We'll be coming from Channel Islands Harbor. Is it better to anchor/moor in the Isthmus or Catalina Harbor side of the island? How about when to arrive. I'm thinking of getting there fairly early on the Thursday prior to the event (sailing overnight Wed night). Is that likely to be early enough to find a mooring or place to anchor? Is the event crowded, a good thing, worthwhile, a waste of time, etc? Any and all comments appreciated. Gary Kunkel Catalina 30 Folie a Deux

Sounds Like Fun

I've attended several of the rendezvous and have found them enjoyable. The seminars are getting a little old, but are great for a first time attendee. Your arrival on Thursday should be just fine and you'll have the choice of picking up a mooring or setting an anchor. Your choice of harbor is a personnel thing. If you like more action, closer to the event, water taxi service, etc go with the Isthmus. If you prefer a quiet harbor, have a dingy and don't mind a nice 1/2 mile walk to get to the event go with Cat Harbor.
