Three items here:

1. Is replacement within a 1989 cat 30 of a hotwater heater..Attwood, model ehm6- sm,120 volt 1500 or eqivelant to an inline heater, relalizing, cost difference between inline heater??? What is the cost difference and refer to the model number and brand I should be looking for..please. and what needs to be taken out 1st, fuel tank or hot water heater?

2. What is the least expensive way to have the Adler Barbour, model dmc 12 ..12 volt checked out..the last time the ref guy wanted
$200 to check out and and then didn't tell me till after the fact that, that was for replacing a green fuse marked 15???

3. Two foot pumps for ref when fixed how much and best way to get a deal?..if the model changes because it is fresh water/and or pump out/ or bring in water.

4. Whale gusher 1 1/2 ? how much

finally, by now you understand i have a 1989, and am replacing components on a fixed income, for i have owned the boat for 20 years now as a second owner...... " google the history of this boat "a sail and tale of an emotional rescue" and find out more about the things/matter I
need to take care, of so to move this boat from "Fair" to "average" condition.

Don't know how much that last post will help you. As far as the water heater,
it is simpler to stick with the type you have & replace with a model that uses similar voltage draw requirements. Research through Defender, WM, etc. for a model with similar plumbing connections, so replacement will be easier. If U want to do it yourself & save $$ then stick with something simpler, as it will generally be cheaper to swap out a similar model, then start from scratch. For the Fridge repair / diagnosis I like Nigel Calder's Guide to Electrical Repair & Don Casey has numerous books on boat system repair & replacement. Read up, get a volt meter / circuit tester & learn to repair by doing. The two main items that go bad are the compressor (expensive) & thermostat (cheap to repair). Whale Gusher pumps are still manufactured where I'm from in Northern Ireland, & are available everywhere online. The difficult part is in disassembling them & swaping out another. Its a very tight fit in the cabinetry base of the galley. If you want to save money & learn something about your boat then always D.I.Y. first. If its already broken, then U have nothing to loose. Good luck.

I just replaced mine as it was leaking fresh water for a while. I found it was easier if I replaced it with the same make & model. Mine was a Seaworthy. It was only around $300 and the store had it in stock. ( not West Marine). The hardest part was fitting a 6', 200+ lb guy into the lazzarette, and trying to squat on the sloping side of the boat. My other problem was the new heater was about a half an inch bigger. The water hoses that went to the front of the heater ( it faces aft). Would not quite go on far enough to get a good seal on them. Solved that by getting a couple of plastic elbows as the hose was kinked going around the front anyway. Putting the elbows in took out the kinks and gave me enough hose to clamp on to the heater with a slight amount of slack. Getting the air out of the hot engine coolest wasn't hard just warm up the engine with the cap off and let it bubble out there, and add some more. It only took me (working alone) about two hours, if you don't count two trips to the marine store.

It definitely is cheaper to stick with the Attwood you have (still available) as you can pull out the old one and put in the new one and just hook it all up in the reverse order. But, why does it not work? Does the tank leak? Or does it just not get hot? If it doesn't get hot, then maybe your heater element is bad and it is so easy to replace and much cheaper than replacing the entire heater.
Have you called the Adler Barbour people up? They usually are very helpful in trouble shooting. You just might need more freon.
#3 is very confusing. Makes no sense to me. But, if you have a foot pump for fresh water, it might be that white pump with a black level that you pump with your foot. The lever sticks out and the pump is behind cabinetry, for example. You can get rebuild kit for those so you don't have to buy the new pump.
This is what good dealerships are for. A good dealership knows this stuff (West Marine people don't).
